The PCI-20031M-1 Analog Expander/Sequencer Module adds up to 32SE/16 DIFF additional analog input channels to any expandable Intelligent Instrumentation I/O board. The PCI-20031M-1 is compatible with the PCI-20002M-1, PCI-20023M-1, PCI-20341M-1A and PCI-20364M-1 modules, as well as the analog inputs on the PCI-20098C Series and PCI-20501C Series multifunction boards. Electrical connections between the output of the expander and the input to the analog input device (option module or analog input section of the board) is provided by the internal I3 Bus.

The PCI-20031M-1 supports both single-ended or differential inputs, ... [Read More]

Simultaneous Sample/Hold

Most PC-based data acquisition systems employ only one A/D converter to minimize size and cost. Under these circumstances, channels must be read sequentially. The result is that the data representing each channel is separated in time by the finite speed of the A/D (typically, 5 to 100µSec). Utilizing SSH techniques, you can minimize time-skew by capturing inputs simultaneously. This is useful in many applications, including power and other phase-sensitive measurements.

The PCI-20363M-2 option module provides up to 8 channels of simultaneous sample/hold (SSH) for any expandable Intelligent Instrumentation I/O board. All module functions are completely software programmable; no jumpers are required.

The PCI-20020M-1 adds analog triggering functions to any expandable Intelligent Instrumentation board. The option module can monitor 1 or 2 analog channels and will generate a digital output when pre-programmed conditions are satisfied. Thresholds in the range of ±10V can be programmed with 8-bit (78mV) resolution. A trigger can be initiated on one of the following conditions: input BELOW limit, input ABOVE limit, input BETWEEN limits, or input OUTSIDE limits.

The PCI-20003M Series modules add two analog output channels to any expandable Intelligent Instrumentation board. The PCI-20003M-2 generates analog output voltages in the range of ±10V. In addition to voltage outputs, the PCI-20003M-4 also provides current outputs. Both the PCI-20003M-2 and -4 modules have 2 output channels with separate digital-to-analog converters (DACs).

All DACs have 12-bit resolution, and you can program them for ±5V, 0 to 10V and ±10V full-scale output. In addition, you can program the PCI-20003M-4 for either 4 to 20mA or 5 to 25mA current output.

The PCI-20006M-2 adds two analog output channels to any expandable Intelligent Instrumentation board. This module is ideal for signal generation and control applications requiring high resolution. It has two 16-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs), which can be jumper-programmed for ±5V, 0 to 10V, and ±10V full-scale output.

The PCI-20021M-1B adds eight 12-bit voltage outputs to any expandable Intelligent Instrumentation board. You can select either a ±5V or a ±10V full-scale range.

A dynamic output refresh technique allows a single digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to service all 8 outputs. The DAC output is multiplexed to 8 sample/hold (S/H) circuits. Onboard RAM stores the digital data. A sequencer continuously cycles RAM data to the input of the DAC and multiplexes the DAC output to the appropriate S/H. The computer updates the RAM through memory write operations or DMA transfers. Memory read operations allow the computer to examine output values.

The PCI-20004M-1 option module adds 32 points of TTL-compatible digital I/O to any expandable Intelligent Instrumentation board. The 32 points are arranged in 4 ports of 8 bits each. Using software, you can select each port as either input or output. All lines are buffered to give full, bipolar, TTL drive capability.

The PCI-20004M-1 monitors or controls devices with discrete on/off states, such as relays, switches, lamps, etc. Through the use of opto-isolators (PCI-1100 Series), you can also interface to non-TTL signals. For example, you can switch loads such as AC or DC motors and detect the presence of AC line voltage.

In addition to reading (or writing) bytes, software can extract individual bits or assemble words. In this way, you can use the option module to test logical combinations and determine alarm or control conditions.

The PCI-20007M-1A option module performs a number of important time domain operations and is useful in many precision applications. It adds pulse-counting and pulse-generation, timebase-generation, event-counting, accumulation, frequency-measurement, and quadrature- decoding capabilities to any expandable Intelligent Instrumentation board.

In addition, the rate generator output can be linked to any other option module through the I3 Bus to perform sync or other functions. In addition to a rate generator, the PCI-20007M-1A has four independent 16-bit counter/timer blocks and two quadrature decoders. As a result, it supports several simultaneous tasks, including multiple input and pulse-generation functions. You can also cascade two pairs of counters to form two 32-bit counters.

All direct input and output signals are TTL compatible. If you encounter other levels (as with AC line voltage switching or remote I/O situations where ground loop connections must be broken), you may be able to use the PCI-1100 Series opto-isolators to provide logic-level conversion.

The PCI-20364M-1 option module adds 16 single-ended or 8 differential high-accuracy analog inputs to any expandable Intelligent Instrumentation board. The module's integrating A/D converter provides up to 18 bits of measurement resolution. The integrating design provides stable, low-noise performance and maximizes rejection of normal-mode 50/60Hz interference. As a result, the PCI-20364M-1 is ideal for thermocouple, RTD, and strain gage applications. Absolute accuracy, including contributions from all error sources, is less than 0.02% error in the 16-bit mode.

The PCI-20002M-1 adds 16 single-ended or 8 differential analog input channels to any expandable Intelligent Instrumentation board. Input multiplexers select any one of 16 single-ended input channels. Alternatively, you can program the multiplexer for eight differential channels via jumpers. You can also add additional input channels using the optional PCI-20031M-1 Expander/Sequencer Module. Each module adds 32 single-ended (or 16 differential) channels. A high-performance, differential input, programmable gain amplifier provides signal scaling and common-mode rejection. Gains of 1, 10, 100 and 1000 are available under software control. The 12-bit A/D converter can be set up for an input range of ±5V, 0 to 10V or ±10V full scale. This module synchronizes the start of a new A/D conversion to a software-generated command. The offset voltage and gain accuracy are calibrated at the factory, but you can also calibrate them for optimum performance.

The PCI-20033A-1 is a module extender that facilitates access to the calibration potentiometers on the PCI-20002M-1 Module. The extender fits between the connectors on the carrier and on the module. The PCI-20033A-1 can also be useful with other modules in system troubleshooting situations.
