* Why a text display?

The inevitable question that arises is "why have a text display on a Windows terminal?"

Reasons include:

Data collection tasks, especially time and attendance badging, generally require a prompt followed by an operator response. Text displays are very economical and are designed for this activity. There is now no reason to pay extra for a graphical display when it's not needed

It keeps the data collection user focused. No longer is there extra, possibly confusing information presented. No longer is there the possibility to engage in unauthorized uses such as Web surfing and other questionable activities. The data collection activity is completely under application control

Smaller screens are less likely to be damaged by inadvertent or intentional rough handling - sometimes important in time and attendance clocking transactions

Smaller screens allow for a smaller terminal for better use of valuable workspace, and more installation flexibility
